St.Lucia currently is taking care of 16 children ranging from ages 2 to 15 years. They are receiving medical care including check ups for CD4 count, Tuberculosis and ART management. These children go to kindergarten and primary schools, with only 1 in secondary school.
St. Lucia started as an adult hospice, but is now predominantly an orphanage. For example, hospice patients came with children and once deceased, the children stay in the care of St. Lucia. And, now that we are established and well known in the community, families with orphaned HIV+ children know that we are a beacon of hope for their children.
The children at St. Lucia are quite simply amazing. Despite all the adversity they have faced, their spirit remains. Get to know them.
